We generally agree that the quality of graduates coming out of Ghana’s educational institutions is below par. Most do not know anything apart from their academic disciplines and are not well versed with current world of work. As our mandate of ensuring that students are well equipped with the necessary and needed corporate world skills and ethics, knowledge of the 21st century world of work, values, competencies, and bringing them up to corporate world speed. The Work Ready Program which is an initiative of LeadAfrique International was developed to support JHS Leavers, SHS Leavers and Tertiary students on vacation to experience at the same time be expose to the practicalised aspect of work in the current corporate world of practice.
2018 Work Ready program was in partnership with AFB Ghana. Afb Ghana is a Financial service and a subsidiary of Letshego Holdings, a Botswana based Financial Inclusive Firm in Ghana that provides innovative consumer credit products with about 300,000 customers across the country
AFB Financial Services as a Corporate Ghana Institution believing in the vision of the Work Ready Program agreed to pattern with LeadAfrique International to commit six weeks of interning and job shadowing for students from various schools including MCS International School, St. Thomas Aquinas and St. John’s Senior School.
Internship at AFB took off on the 11th June,2018 with the first batch of five students interning for two weeks with each intern working in a department supervised by the Department Manager, who will assign and supervise tasks to them. The interns were placed in different department after their orientation.
Miss Julia Adjei was placed in the Finance Department where she assisted in creating branch accounts for the institutions and the writing of required cheques as supervised by her Manager.
Master Gideon Yakohene experienced the art of selling as he was placed in the Sales department of AFB BANK, Airport Branch.
Miss Karen Happuch Boi-Nai was assigned to the Products and Productions where she was in charge of the Qwiki Loan software and Smart Cash, she supported the department by making and receiving calls from clients via phone concerning any issue relaying to their accounts.
Master Michael Atsu, an SHS leaver of St. Thomas Aquinas was placed in the Operations department where he experienced the various operations systems used in the non-financial banking sector. Under the supervision of his Manager he liaises with the other departments of AFB Financial to ensure the steady flow of work in a given day
Miss Chantelle Ukachukwu was assisting the personal assistant to the Managing Director where she learnt the skill of managing the director’s calendar and daily appointments.
At the end of the two -weeks, the lead officer of Work Ready liaise with the Human Resource Manager of AFB Financial to do an intern evaluation of all interns and assessed the feedback received from their Managers
We believe strongly the impact made in the two- week period has been great for the students and the learning outcomes will be with them for life.
